Kind of Cool, Historically speaking

On Valentine's Day, we drove up to Portsmouth and had lunch and walked around town. While there, we spotted this tree:

    That's very cool! But for a moment, I was confused...you're in England, you went to Portsmouth....William Whipple went home to ENGLAND, to the naval base at Portsmouth, after signing the Declaration of Independence!?!! You can imagine my confusion.
